Experimental filmmaking breathes life into ideas through diverse techniques and mediums. It includes shooting on 16mm film, experimenting with film stocks via bleach treatments, using various instruments for scratching, and incorporating painting. It involves direct exposure to real-life materials—ranging from small leaves to fabrics—to craft distinctive patterns. Bleaching, scratching, and employing diverse methods create artwork on film celluloids, encouraging boundless imagination in exploring the possibilities of this medium.
(The images above showcase techniques like scratching and bleaching, which are integral parts of the film 'Echoes of War' by Musa Yawari.)
Throughout this journey I have explored all the techniques and put them into practice. This led me to a conclusion that one can express themselves via these mediums without having any boundaries. This medium also gave me hope and a lot of inspiration as an artist and storyteller who hails from a region where censorship does not allow free artistic expression. The faith which I lost as an artist, to tell the untold stories of my region to the world, has now reignited. Additionally, I got the understanding of not showing the world directly your story but using different mediums to convey those stories creatively and effectively.
